Did you know…?

Did you know most computers have a battery inside which powers the Real Time Clock (RTC)? The RTC works much like a watch that runs all the time. During each boot sequence, the RTC is queried for the current date and time.

In some instances, when the battery dies, the computer will not boot at all. In most cases, though, the computer will boot up, but with an incorrect date and time.

If you find yourself having to manually set the date and time when you boot up, it’s most likely because the battery needs to be replaced. Of course, this means opening up your computer which can lead to issues far more serious than a dead battery.
